Amina Allam, a polyvalent entrepreneur

Say hello to Amina Allam, the personal shopper/model/actrice and a lot more.

We had the pleasure to interview one of the most beautiful actrice from Morocco. After discovering her Instagram page and seeing the serie 1001 nuits, we were hooked! We just had to know more about Amina. We hope you find great inspiration and insight reading this interview. Also, make sure to visit Blog.LookbyAminaallam.com for some style advice and ideas!

Introduce yourself

My name is Amina Allam and I have been modelling for almost 13 years. I'm half Moroccan half Finnish. I was born in Casablanca and have lived most of my life here. I worked with 2 model agencies in Paris in my earlier years and moved to Beirut after winning a pan-arab model contest sponsored by Elie Saab. In 2009 I took a break in modeling and left for Montreal to complete my studies with the aim to open my beauty and style coaching agency, Look By Amina Allam. I started my agency in December 2011 and have been doing less of modeling since then.

What are your current activities?

I do different activities within my agency, such as styling for magazines, videos and ads, personal shopping and blogging. I also have a bridal service since last October. My clients have so far been exclusively from Morocco, but I'm planning to work in other markets too. This year was kind of special for me, because I had my first role as an actress in a Moroccan TV series, 1001 nights. It was a great experience and I would love to take some drama classes to continue in this field. My blog has become an important part of my professional life and I love doing research for new ideas.

What do you want to achieve with Look By Amina Allam?

My agency is the 1st of its kind in Morocco and I would be happy to further develop my activities. I hope that the Moroccan market will develop in such way that local women would dare ask for help which is not very often the case today. People still don't understand well enough what style coaching means and think that it's a service reserved for upper classes. This is absolutely not the case, because once a person knows how to dress, she stops buying useless things and does her shopping in a much more intelligent way, which in the long run becomes much cheaper than impulsive shopping, not to forget the fact the person learns how improve her physical appearance and to show off her beauty.

Aspirations and inspirations

Absolutely everywhere. I get inspired by people in the street, a beautiful view, a child and music is one of my main sources of inspiration.

Who do you look up to?

People who have succeeded  and have still remained simple and modest.

What are your future plans and dreams?

As I said earlier, I hope to be able to take some drama classes in the future and continue my work as style coach. Personal shopping is an area that I wish to further invest in in the future.

What do you see in modesty movements of nowadays?

I think that this movement is great. I don't see any reason why a hijabista girl couldn't wear nice clothes. I regularly do research and publish nice hijab styles on my FB page and many are asking for more. There are more and more brands which propose nice clothing for covered women, but they can still find nice and proper clothing in regular stores.

What are the upcoming trends for you this fall 2014-2015?

There are quite many of them. Just to mention a few of my favorite ones are the novelty prints which will bring color and life this fall. Also, sports clothing is a great inspiration in this fall's collection: jogging pants can now be worn with heels and a chic blouse and sneakers with a dress or a skirt - isn't it fun?

If we were to go shopping tomorrow and you had to take me to the best shop/store you know, where would we go?

This is a difficult question, because it would depend on what you're looking for, your style and your budget. I would be discussing this with you and would make you suggestions based on your needs.

What role do your roots play in your style and vision of the world?

The fact that my parents are from different cultures has taught me a  certain openness and a lot of tolerance. No matter where a person is from, what her religion or race are, we all should be treated equally and have the same rights. I dress depeding of how I feel when I wake up in the morning. My style varies a lot from one day to another and I simply love experimenting new looks.

Tips and Tricks from Amina

The most important thing about fashion is to feel good in what one is wearing. One feels more confident in a comfortable outfit which also reflects one's personality.
