I
didn't know I was going to write this just
a few hours ago. I was sitting in my living room and realized that I
wanted to write something about my encounter with Noor Tagouri.
I
sporadically followed Noor Tagouri's journey through her LetNoorShine
campaign and I have admired her ambitious, unconditionally positive
self. I had the chance to meet her during her stay in Paris and this
is what it has inspired me.
Noor
Tagouri is inspirational because she knows what she wants and she
doesn't try to hide her ambitious plan to succeed. I think that is
something many of us have a lot to learn from. We want to succeed but
don't put all of our self into it. We don't organize ourselves to
success. In other words, success has to come to us which would likely
never happen.
She
is inspirational because she is always impeccable in her
presentation, and that is what any muslim career oriented woman wants
for herself, and for other women. The first impression others will
have of you will undeniably be your appearance. Whether is it your
colorful hijabs or your hairdo, it reflects the image you have of
yourself and the importance you give to your own self.
Noor
is inspirational because she represents other women who share the
struggle, the ambition and relate to her message, to her values and
most importantly to her fierce will to combat a stigma.
To
finish off this eulogistic enumeration, I would like to remind us
muslim women that the scarf covering our heads is not a hiding
accessory, an achievement or a completion. It is rather what empowers
us to be on the front line, with that bonus factor that a part of our
identity is visible. This sign of affiliation is merely a taste of
what your personality might be like. So much is yet to prove once you adorn it. Your value as a person, or as a citizen is still on the line and this should not be disregarded.
